A lot has been talked in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the web variation of this classic game offer a salvation, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an age old game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game of late had seen a recent return in popularity with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlours in place of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the smoking ban throughout United Kingdom.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite places where players like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t forgotten this established game?

The answer is on the net. Gamblers know that they can gamble on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, enjoy big prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a number of bingo players with no choice.
