An abundance has been written in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the cigarette ban in England. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But will the internet adaptation of this classic game provide a salvation, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo has been an established game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had experienced a recent return in appeal with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the smoking ban all over Britain.

No more will enthusiasts be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public place will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular locations where people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Of course they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?

The answer is online. People realise that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and fag and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the net will never replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the law has left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
