An abundance has been written in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the net version of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based kin?

Bingo is an enduring game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the smoking ban around UK.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common places where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Players have dropped and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not abandoned this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. Players are now realizing that they can gamble on bingo from their computer while enjoying a drink and cigarette and still enjoy big prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the internet will never replace the communal portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
