Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 Peas in a Pod
by Ean on Oct.11, 2022, under Bingo
Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. This is because the Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for many years. Patrons from many of the surrounding states pile in trucks and visit Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo for the weekends.
The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. From that time, twenty three of the 39 Amerindian tribes located in Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Native band to take advantage of the wagering rules, and today operate 10 casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which these gambling dens were built on. Electronic games like slot machines were not authorized, because they’re thought to contribute to gambling dependency more than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma law have altered to permit gigantic American Indian betting gambling halls. You’ll now find Indian casinos with slots, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are not yet approved in the Native gambling dens as of yet, however that is simply a waiting game. No one can say what having different casino games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
