An abundance has been stated in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues because of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax breaks to help keep the businesses alive. But can the web version of this traditional game provide a lifeline, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar relative?

Bingo has been an ancient game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game of late had experienced a recent increase in appeal with younger people deciding to visit the bingo halls in place of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to change with the legislating of the smoking ban across United Kingdom.

No more will enthusiasts be able to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The results of the cigarette ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not forgotten this ancient game?

The answer is on the internet. Players know that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and smoke and still have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course wagering on on the net could never replace the collective portion of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
