An abundance has been reported in the papers not long ago about the bingo industry struggling as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax breaks to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But will the web version of this quintessential game provide a escape, or will it in no way compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an established game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent comeback in appeal with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enacting of the anti smoking law all over England and Wales.

No longer will players be able to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common areas where many people like to smoke.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t forgotten this established game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on on the net will never replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
