Much has been stated in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the web version of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it never compare to its real life peer?

Bingo is an established game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had experienced a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo parlours rather than the clubs on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the smoking ban throughout UK.

No more will gamblers be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored locations where many people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t cast aside this established game?

The answer is online. Gamblers know that they can wager on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cig and still enjoy big prizes. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on online could never replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
