An abundance has been stated in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. However does the online variation of this traditional game offer a salvation, or will it never compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban all over Britain.

No longer will gamblers be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most common places where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t given up on this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can participate in bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and cig and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the web is unlikely to replace the collective part of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
