A lot has been reported in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit as a consequence of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However does the internet adaptation of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or might it not compare to its land based kin?

Bingo has been an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent comeback in acceptance with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout UK.

Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite places where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Profits have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they have not forgotten this familiar game?

The answer is on the net. Players realize that they can bet on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and fag and in the end, have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
