An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge tax breaks to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But does the net version of this classic game present a salvation, or will it not compare to its real life opposite?

Bingo is an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in popularity with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public areas will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular places where many people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can gamble on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and in the end, enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course gambling on online is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of men and women the law has left many bingo players with no choice.
