A lot has been written in the papers not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses alive. But can the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or will it never compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo is an age old game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the legislating of the anti smoking law throughout United Kingdom.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public areas will not be permitted to allow smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favored locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the business is absolutely fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Of course they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is online. Players know that they can gamble on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and fag and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the social aspect of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
